Sunny Sharma and  wife Rashmi District 5890 Governor 2010-2011
 
Sunny Sharma received undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering in India, Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from Mississippi State University and MBA from the University of Houston. In 1974, Sunny started his career as a Management Engineer at St. Joseph Hospital and later became Director of Management Engineering for St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Texas Children's Hospital and Texas Heart Institute in Houston, Texas. In 1983, Sunny co-founded and became Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Medical Enterprises International, Inc. of Houston, Texas. The company was sold in 1987 to Medical Systems Support, Inc., where he became the Director of Clinical Marketing Systems. In 1989, Sunny developed the concept for Sunbelt Medical Corporation (SMC) and founded the company as President and Chief Executive Officer. SMC offers equipment consultation, acquisition, installation and maintenance for healthcare facilities worldwide. SMC sells new and refurbished equipment to physician's offices, imaging centers and hospitals on a turn key basis. Sunny is past president of the Greater Houston Hospital Management Systems Society and has many articles and publications to his credit. He was recognized as Outstanding Young Leader in South Southwestern Allied Health Forum. He is a founding member of International Associations of Medical Equipment Remarketers. He is currently a member of Advisory Board for Houston Medicine Magazine and also serves on Houston District Export Council. He is a founding member of Indo American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston. Sunny has served on the Supervisory Board of the World Trade Division of Greater Houston Partnership and has been Chairman of the Asia Business Forum, Middle East Committee, and India Business Forum. He has been on the Board of Houston Abu Dhabi Sister City, U. S. China People's Friendship Association, Fort Bend American Heart Association, Indo American Forum of Fort Bend, and Sister Cities of Houston. He served on Sugar Land's Mayor's Multicultural Committee, and leadership committee. He has been President of Fort Bend American Heart Association and was named Outstanding Board Member. Sunny joined Rotary in 1985 as a charter member of Sugar Creek Rotary, now known as Fort Bend Rotary. He became president in 1996 and received an award for largest growth in membership for the district in the small clubs category. He was also honored by his club as "Rotarian of the Year". Sunny has served on various district committees including GSE, Conference, Leadership, All Star, All Club, and Health and Hunger. He has also served on the faculty for Assistant Governor's training at PETS. He has been Assistant Governor three times and Lieutenant Governor once. He is a multiple Paul Harris fellow and a Bequest Society member. Sunny was honored as "Rotarian of the Year" for District 5890. Sunny and Rashmi also received the "Fort Bend Humanitarian of the Year" award. Sunny and Rashmi have hosted GSE teams from India, Russia, East Germany, England, Belgium, Poland, Chile and France, including "Welcome" and "Going Away" parties. They have hosted a Youth Exchange student from Sweden, served as mentor for Ambassadorial Scholar from India, and hosted friendship exchange from Japan and Canada. They have attended several International conferences over the years. Rashmi earned her Masters Degree in French and has been married to Sunny for 31 years. They have three sons, Sanjay, Rajan, and Roshan.
